Founder & Principal
Dr. Parsin Haji Reza is a registered Professional Engineer, visionary scientist, educator, and entrepreneur with a distinguished career in biomedical optics, medical imaging, and photonic engineering. As the Founder and Principal Consultant of Lightek Consulting Limited, he brings over a decade of experience in translating complex scientific innovations into practical solutions for industry, healthcare, and technology-driven enterprises.
Over the past decade, Dr. Haji Reza has been actively involved with a range of early-stage companies spanning hardware, software, mobile technologies, and artificial intelligence. Across these ventures, he has held diverse leadership roles—including Founder, Chairman, Board Member, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Scientific Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and Strategic Advisor—demonstrating a nuanced understanding of technology transfer, commercialization, and multidisciplinary team-building.
An expert in technical due diligence, Dr. Haji Reza provides critical assessments of emerging technologies, guiding investment decisions, strategic partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions. His expertise in high-stakes expert witness engagements has been instrumental in supporting legal teams during complex litigation involving imaging systems, optical platforms, and medical devices.
Dr. Haji Reza is the inventor of multiple transformative technologies, including Photoacoustic Remote Sensing (PARS), Photon Absorption Remote Sensing (PARS), Xense, and the Molecular Sensory Intelligence (MSI) Platform. His scientific contributions include authoring over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and securing more than 16 patent families, with over 60 patents awarded or pending across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
He has been widely recognized for excellence in research, teaching, and mentorship. His honors include the Engineering Medal from the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, the Ontario Early Researcher Award, the Faculty of Engineering Distinguished Performance Award, the Engineering Research Excellence Award, and the Outstanding Performance Award. During the pandemic, his leadership and commitment to student mental health were acknowledged through the Engineering Society’s Friend of Natalie Award.
In academia, Dr. Haji Reza serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering and the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Waterloo and holds a translational medical staff position at the renowned Wills Eye Hospital.
